Moving Waters Houseboat

--- 10 Berth - Hire and Drive or Moored Accommodation ---

Moving Waters can be booked as a 'Hire and Drive' houseboat for those eager to explore the mighty Murray River. Moving Waters can also be booked as 'Moored Accommodation' for those that want to experience being on the water but without having to drive and manoeuvre the boat.

It boasts a modern design, is spacious and easy to operate, making it an extremely comfortable and relaxing houseboat for your next well deserved holiday.

As well as relaxing onboard with your family and friends, there is plenty of activities to partake in.

If you're feeling active, take a dip in the river, try some water sport action or cruise at a more leisurely pace by paddling in a kayak, or dropping in a fishing line to try and catch your dinner.

The large panoramic windows and large shaded upper deck gives you awesome views of the passing landscapes whether inside or outside of the boat.

Frequently Asked Questions for Hire and Drive option

Do I need a special licence?

No - a current car driver's licence is all you need.

Can anyone drive a houseboat, even if I have not driven a houseboat before?

Yes - as long as you are over 18 years of age. On arrival you will be instructed on the operation and navigation of your houseboat by a fully licenced operator. You will then be taken on a short orientation cruise to make sure you are comfortable handling the craft.

How many people are allowed on 'Moving Waters'?

Maritime regulations state the number of persons on board must not exceed the number of berths, being 10. Children under 12 months of age are not included in the count.

How much bond do I have to pay and when do I get it back?

Bond is $1500. The bond will be refunded within 14 days, if the boat is returned in suitable condition and less fuel charges.
Please note that our insurance excess is $2000, therefore if major damages occur to the houseboat, an additional bond of $500 plus fuel charges will need to be paid PRIOR to departure from the houseboat

Are houseboat holidays suitable for children?

Yes - houseboats are fantastic for family holidays. There is so much to do on a houseboat for families - swimming, fishing, kayaking, exploring the bush at your mooring location, collecting wood for campfires (when there is no fire ban) and cooking on the campfire, watching wildlife, watching the supplied DVD's and if you have a dinghy or speedboat, other water sports including kneeboarding, wakeboarding or skiing.

Is there enough water in the river for a houseboat holiday and if so, how far can we travel?

There is plenty of water in the river for you to enjoy a houseboat holiday from Renmark. You can travel a good distance in the time that you have on board - remember though you have to travel back again! We recommend that you travel upstream as it is a very beautiful part of the river and there are many mooring spots to choose from. We prefer that you don't travel downstream as there are some very shallow spots to navigate and there are less river access points for us to provide you assistance if required. The other thing to consider by going downstream is that the Paringa Bridge has to be booked in to be lifted so that you can get through (opening times are either 9.30am or 2.30pm on most days of the year) and you will also have to go through Lock 5 shortly after.

Can I travel at night on the river?

No - Houseboats cannot be driven after sunset.

Fuel Costs - How much will I use and what will it cost?

Fuel usage depends on weather (eg wind), how fast and how far you travel. The most economical speed is around 2600-2800 revs and the boat will use approximately 10 litres/hour. Fuel is also used for the generator. Please remember generator run time is reduced due to the fact that the houseboat has 10 solar panels on the roof of the boat providing a great deal of your power needs.

What is provided onboard 'Moving Waters'

All bed linen (sheets, quilts, spare blankets), pillows, bath towels for each person (please bring own swimming towels), hand towels, 4 facewashers, 2 tea towels, apron, oven mitts.

• A small selection of DVD's, books and games

1 roll of paper towel, 6 rolls of toilet paper, washing machine powder, dishwasher tabs (approximately 8), soap, small sachets of shampoo and conditioner, shower caps, basic cleaning products and vacuum cleaner, 1 litre milk, tea/coffee/sugar sachets, 8 coffee pods to get you started!
• One x 2 person kayak. Also two
camp ovens and 8 fold up camp chairs to use on the riverbank (when the boat is booked for hire/drive)

What do I need to bring?

Swimming towels
• Ice for outdoor ice chest (we can arrange supply of bagged and block ice upon request).
• Clothing
• Fishing rod and worms.
• Food and drink - there is excellent shopping in Renmark with 2 supermarkets - Woolworths and Foodland - as well as BWS, Sip n Save, specialty butchers and bakeries.

Where do we leave our car whilst on the houseboat?

Your car can be parked on James Avenue near the houseboat or next to our residential premises across the road from the houseboat mooring, which is at your own risk. Boat trailers can be parked on the lawn of our home residence.

A few entries from the Guest Book...

We loved the automatic quiet generator; the solar panels; the wonderful furniture on the top deck; the large table on the back deck; the dishwasher! Excellent scenery - we had "the spot" and loved it - perfect one day, perfect the next! Rating 5/5.
– Ken and Cindy - Berri SA
Cleanliness and everything we needed was on board. Scenery on our travels was fantastic, breathtaking and tranquil. We had a grat time and will be back. Rating 5/5.
– Ron and Di - Magill SA
We enjoyed everything about our stay, accommodation was faultless, detail to decor and fittings is a credit to Deanne and Stephen. The swings on the top deck were a nice addition and nice to relax in. Having the solar panels is definitely a great idea, not only reduces costs but also reduces noise - fantastic. Deanne and Stephen were both pleasant, friendly and extremely helpful. Rating 5/5
– Margie and Dave - Semaphore SA
We love the whole package with houseboats - spectacular scenery, tranquility. Moving Waters, in particular, had a modern kitchen, great sound system and convenient power setup (in comparison to some we've had). Having the camp oven to use was great. Rating 5/5.
– Craig, Sam and Kids - Goolwa SA
Boat was very clean and new looking. Everything was fresh and tidy when we arrived. We had everything we needed!
